How Montenegro’s Vijesti uses social media and events to build audience engagement

Montenegrin newspaper and online portal Vijesti saw a sharp spike in their Twitter followers and Facebook fans when their journalists used social media and a Twitter hashtag to cover protests last year, and now the news group uses social media to engage their audience directly in their journalism, even going as far as meeting them at “Twitter parties”.

Ad agencies urge Serbian local media to focus on direct ad sales

Local media in Serbia see their future online, but some outlets that moved early have yet to see their investment pay off. At a recent conference in Belgrade, local media owners expressed frustration with advertisers and ad agencies for overlooking local outlets in favour of national media. Rather than to try to fight for national accounts, agency executives urged local media to focus on direct sales to boost their digital returns.
